Common questions

Kindred is not showing a contact I expect

Open the Settings app, tap Kindred, and check that Contacts access is set to Full Access. With Limited Access, only the contacts you selected are visible to Kindred. Then pull to refresh on the People tab.

How do I add my work contacts and calendar?

Kindred reads the contacts and calendars already on your device, so add a work or Google account there first. On iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app, tap Apps › Contacts › Contacts Accounts › Add Account, sign in to Microsoft Exchange or Google, and turn on Contacts and Calendars. On a Mac, open System Settings › Internet Accounts and add the account the same way. Then pull down on Kindred's People tab to refresh (⌘R on a Mac), and make sure the work calendar is on under Kindred's Settings › Connections › Calendars. Kindred only reads these accounts; it never changes their contacts. If your company allows only the Outlook app, open Outlook's settings, tap your account, and turn on Save Contacts (your company may have turned this off). Outlook then copies your work contacts into your iCloud contacts, where Kindred sees them. Meetings that live only in the Outlook app don't reach Apple's Calendar, so Kindred can't see them; ask your IT team whether you can add the account in Settings instead.

My devices are not in sync

Kindred syncs through iCloud. Confirm both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud Drive is on. The Today screen shows the last sync time at the bottom. First sync after install can take a few minutes.

My contacts differ between my Mac and my iPhone

Kindred shows the contacts each device has, so first check Apple's Contacts app: on your Mac and your iPhone, compare the count at the bottom of the iCloud list, and look up the same person on icloud.com. If the Mac is missing cards the iPhone and icloud.com have, the Mac's iCloud Contacts sync is stuck. Quit the Contacts app and Kindred, turn Contacts off in System Settings under your name › iCloud (it is fine to remove them from this Mac, since iCloud keeps them), move the folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook to your Desktop, restart, and turn Contacts back on. Once the Mac has downloaded everything, open Kindred and choose Settings › Sync details › Re-read every Contacts card. Apps that copy contacts between accounts, such as Google contact sync tools, can cause this, so pause them while you fix it.

Some people appear twice in Kindred

Open Kindred's Settings › Possible duplicates. Merge in bulk handles people with the same name and the same email or phone in one step, and lists people who share only a name separately, for you to decide. Tap any pair to compare them side by side first. A merge keeps everything from every copy: logs, dates, notes, numbers, and groups. Nothing in Apple Contacts is changed.

My iCloud storage is full. What happens to Kindred?

Kindred keeps working on the device you are using, and it tells you on the Today screen that iCloud is full. New changes are saved on that device only: they do not reach iCloud or your other devices until there is room again. Free up space or change your iCloud plan in the Settings app under your name › iCloud, and syncing resumes on its own. Kindred's people and notes take very little room; scanned pages and photos take more. Kindred is not a backup, so use Kindred's Settings › Privacy › Export now and then.

A meeting did not match a person

Kindred matches calendar events by the attendee's email address or phone number. Make sure that address is on the person's contact card, and that the calendar is enabled under Kindred's Settings › Connections.

I want to move my data or start over

Kindred's Settings › Privacy has Export and Delete. Export writes a file you can keep. Delete removes everything from this device and from your iCloud database.

Notifications are not arriving

Check that notifications are allowed for Kindred in the Settings app, then confirm the reminder time under Settings › Notifications in Kindred. Focus modes can also silence them.

Buying Kindred

Free for 14 days, then $29.99 once. See pricing and the Terms of Sale.

I bought Kindred, but it's asking me to buy it again

Tap Restore Purchases on that screen, or in Kindred's Settings › Kindred (on the Mac, Settings › Purchase). Make sure the device is signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with: on iPhone and iPad, check Settings › your name › Media & Purchases. Restoring is free.

Do I need to buy it again for my Mac, iPad, or Apple Watch?

No. One purchase covers every device signed in to your Apple Account. Open Kindred on the other device and it unlocks on its own; if it doesn't, tap Restore Purchases.

How do I share Kindred with my family?

Kindred supports Family Sharing. Turn on Purchase Sharing in Settings › your name › Family Sharing, then each family member opens Kindred on their own device (tap Restore Purchases if it still asks). Everyone keeps their own people and notes in their own iCloud; nothing is shared between you.

How long is left in my free trial?

Kindred's Settings › Kindred shows the days left. The 14-day trial starts when you tap Start Free Trial and is the same on all your devices, so starting it on your iPhone also starts it on your Mac. If someone in your Family Sharing group already started a trial, yours may be counting from theirs.

What happens to my notes if I don't buy Kindred after the trial?

Nothing is deleted. Everything stays in your iCloud, and the screen that appears after the trial has Export your data, so you can save it all as a file. If you buy Kindred later, it opens right where you left off.

It says the purchase is waiting for approval

That's Ask to Buy: a parent or guardian in your Family Sharing group approves the purchase on their device. Kindred opens as soon as they do.

Kindred isn't available in my country

Kindred is sold on the United States App Store only for now.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases go through Apple, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue them ourselves.

A note on your data

Kindred has no servers, so we cannot look up your account or recover data for you. Everything lives in your iCloud. If you are troubleshooting sync, the fastest fix is usually confirming the Apple Account and iCloud settings on each device. See the privacy policy for details.
