Kindred Privacy Policy

Effective September 17, 2026

The short version

• Kindred has no accounts and no servers. We cannot see your data.
• Everything Kindred creates is stored in the private iCloud database tied to your Apple Account, on your devices and in Apple's iCloud.
• Kindred reads your Contacts and Calendar only with your permission, and never writes to your address book on its own.
• Kindred contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking code.

What Kindred stores, and where

Kindred keeps the following data in the private CloudKit database of your iCloud account: the people you track and their groups, the cadence you choose for each person, your interaction log and notes, your feedback types and ratings, context notes, trend history, and placeholder people you add before they have a contact card. This data is stored on your devices and synced through iCloud. It is protected by your Apple Account and subject to Apple's privacy policy. Pointe Ventures does not operate any server that receives, stores, or processes this data, and we have no means of accessing it.

If you disable iCloud for Kindred, the data stays on your device only and will not sync to your other devices.

Contacts

With your permission, Kindred reads contact cards from Apple Contacts to show names, photos, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, birthdays and other dates, related people, and social profile links. Kindred also uses email addresses and phone numbers to match people to calendar events and to merge duplicate cards.

Kindred never writes to your address book automatically. The only changes it makes are edits you perform yourself inside Kindred, such as correcting a phone number, and those are saved only to the person's iCloud contact card. Contact cards that belong to other accounts, such as Google or Exchange, are treated as read-only.

Google and Outlook (Kindred Plus). If you choose to connect a Google or Microsoft account, Kindred requests read-only access to contacts from that provider, using that provider's own sign-in. The access token is stored in your device keychain and contacts are fetched directly from the provider to your device. Data from those accounts is governed by Google's and Microsoft's privacy policies. You can disconnect an account at any time in Settings.

Calendar and Reminders

With your permission, Kindred reads calendar events to find meetings with the people you track, by matching attendee email addresses and phone numbers. Kindred stores only a link to the event and any log you choose to create. When you schedule a meeting from Kindred, it creates a normal calendar event on your device. Reminders access, if granted, is used only to create reminders you ask for.

Notifications

Kindred schedules reminders locally on your device. Notification content, such as a person's name or an upcoming birthday, is generated on the device and is not sent to any server.

Siri and Apple Intelligence

When you type a context note, Kindred can use on-device Apple Intelligence to highlight names, relationships, and dates and suggest adding them. This processing happens on your device. Kindred does not send your notes to any external service. Siri Shortcuts and App Intents run through Apple's frameworks under Apple's privacy terms.

Your own AI model (Plus)

Kindred Plus lets you bring your own AI model for drafted follow-ups: an API key for OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, or a model running on your own Mac or network. The key is stored in your device's Keychain. It is never synced, never included in an export, and never sent to Kindred. When you ask for a draft, Kindred sends that one person's facts and your notes about them directly from your device to the provider you chose, and nothing else. Kindred has no server in between and never sees the request or the reply. Your provider's own privacy terms apply to what you send it, and you pay the provider at its own rates. Remove the model in Settings and the key is deleted from the Keychain.

Phone, Messages, Mail, and other apps

Kindred cannot see your call history, text messages, or email, and does not attempt to. When you start a call, message, or email from inside Kindred, the app records that you did so, along with the time, and offers to let you add notes. Content you explicitly share into Kindred from another app, using the share sheet, is stored as part of your log.

Face ID and app lock

If you turn on app lock, Kindred asks the system to verify you with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. Kindred never receives biometric data; it only learns whether the check succeeded.

Analytics and tracking

Kindred contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs. We do not collect device identifiers, usage statistics, or crash reports beyond what Apple may share with developers according to your own iOS and macOS analytics settings.

This website

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics scripts. It is hosted by Vercel, whose servers may keep standard, short-lived request logs (such as IP address and pages requested) to operate the service, as described in Vercel's privacy policy. If you email us, we keep your message so we can reply.

Your data and your choices

• Export. You can export your Kindred data from Settings at any time.
• Delete. You can delete all Kindred data from Settings. This removes it from your device and from your iCloud database. Deleting the app alone does not remove the iCloud copy.
• Permissions. Every permission is optional and can be changed later in the Settings app on your device.

Children

Kindred is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Because Kindred has no servers, it collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, note it in the app's release notes.
